Twenty one sections: visas, residency and citizenship, residency rights for anyone who moved before 1 January 2021, ID cards and residence permits, healthcare, working, driving, tax, pensions, benefits, buying and renting, voting, studying, children, births, deaths and marriages, lawyers, translators and notaries, pets, and returning to the UK. It is written for Britons and it is worth reading whatever passport you hold, because it is the only document anywhere that covers this move end to end and carries a date.

Instagram and TikTok
Eighteen Instagram accounts and four on TikTok, every follower count read off the profile on 18 September 2026 except the TikTok figures, which no one outside TikTok can read and which are third party approximations. The balance here tells you something: the strongest accounts are official regional tourist boards, not residents. Instagram does not show a logged out visitor when an account last posted, so we cannot promise any of these posted this month, and we would rather say that than imply we checked.
Feel Slovenia
The Slovenian Tourist Board's own account, confirmed by its bio, which credits the board directly. National tourism marketing, nothing sold
286,000 followers and 6,844 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, which makes it the largest Slovenia account anywhere and the one place the whole country is shown season by season. Useful caution for anyone searching: an account called visitslovenia is a Polish market account and is not the national board, and a second account using the board's English name in full is not the one the board's own site links to. This is the handle the board points at.
Visit Ljubljana
Turizem Ljubljana, the city tourist board, at Krekov trg 10. Official, confirmed in the bio
90,900 followers and 3,992 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The closest thing to an official account for what the capital is like to be in rather than to visit: markets, festivals, the river, winter. If you are weighing Ljubljana against a smaller place, this is a cheap way to watch a year go past before you commit to one.
The Unretirees
Matt and Dawn, the American couple above. Their bio says plainly that they are expats in Portugal, not in Slovenia. They sell a newsletter and resource guides
77,500 followers and 163 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026, and much the largest audience here for the over fifties moving abroad question. Slovenia is one country among several they have looked at. We include them for the framing, the costs and the questions, and we repeat the caveat from their channel above: they researched Slovenia, they did not move there.
Lake Bled
Turizem Bled, the Bled tourist information centre. Official regional board
69,000 followers and 4,100 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Bled is the picture everyone has of Slovenia and this is the source of most of it. Worth following for a specific reason beyond the view: the board posts about the lake out of season, which is when you would actually be living there, and the winter and shoulder season material is a fair answer to how quiet it gets.
Exploring Slovenia
A Slovenian mountain guiding company selling hut to hut treks, alpine climbing and ski touring. Its About page names no individual guide, which we note because every other business on this page does
52,500 followers and 2,777 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The best account here for what the mountains actually look like away from Bled, including the hut network you get a discount on with the alpine association card listed in the communities section below. This is a company feed and it is selling tours, so read it for the terrain rather than the recommendation.
Jaka Ivancic
A Slovenian landscape, travel and commercial photographer. He sells his book Slovenia: A Land of Contrasts and shoots commercially, including for Samsung Slovenia
39,000 followers and 1,238 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The strongest photographic account we found for the coast and the Istrian side of the country, which nothing else on this page covers properly, and his Slovenian autumn work is the argument for the season nobody plans a scouting trip around. A working professional rather than a content account, so the volume is low and the quality is not.
Bohinj
Turizem Bohinj, the tourist board for the Bohinj valley inside Triglav National Park. Official
33,700 followers and 3,294 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Bohinj is the lake people move to when they have seen Bled and found it busy: bigger, quieter, inside the national park, and with the restrictions that come with that. The account is the plainest picture of what a winter in an alpine valley looks like, which is the question that matters if you are choosing here over the coast.
Visit Maribor
Maribor Tourism, the official city board at Partizanska cesta 6a
28,900 followers and 4,757 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The only substantial account for Styria and the east, which is where the cheaper property is, and its bio claims European Best Wine Capital 2026. Slovenia's second city gets almost no English language coverage of any kind, so if Maribor is on your list this account and the city's own site are close to the whole of what you can see before you go.
Postojna Cave
Postojnska jama d.d., the company operating the cave, Predjama Castle, Hotel Jama and the vivarium. Commercial, and selling tickets
19,700 followers and 1,806 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Listed for one reason: the Karst is a region people consider living in and almost nothing publishes about it in English except this company. Treat it as a window on the landscape between Ljubljana and the coast rather than as coverage of the area, and pair it with the Vipava Valley board below.
Portoroz and Piran
The Portoroz and Piran tourist board. Official
17,300 followers and 862 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Slovenia has forty six kilometres of coast and this board covers the part of it most people mean when they say they want to retire by the sea here. Note the post count: 862, against nearly 4,800 for Maribor. The coast is under documented in English relative to how many people are considering it.
Ales Krivec
A Slovenian landscape photographer. His bio lists a Travel Photographer of the Year category win, a National Geographic Slovenia aerial category win and a Sony award. We could not confirm whether he sells prints
16,400 followers and 1,722 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Mist, forest and the alpine foreground, and the closest thing on this page to what the interior of the country looks like on an ordinary morning rather than in a tourism campaign. One honest note: his profile highlights stop at a 2019 calendar, and Instagram does not show a logged out visitor when an account last posted, so we cannot tell you how recently he has been active.
Jost Gantar
A professional photographer based in Bled, whose work appears across Slovenian Tourist Board material. He sells prints and postcards through his own site
11,800 followers and 687 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. If you have looked at a Slovenian tourism campaign you have probably seen his pictures without knowing it. He lives in Bled, which makes his account one of the few here that is genuinely a resident's view of the Julian Alps rather than a visitor's, and the published work highlight is a fair account of what a photographer earns a living at in a small country.
Slovenia Green Association
A non governmental organisation running the national sustainable tourism certification scheme. Nothing sold

Useful for an unglamorous reason: its highlights are organised by destination, including Trzic, Zalec, Kranj, Kamnik, Ptuj, Krsko and the Poljanska valley, which are exactly the smaller towns nobody else covers in English and where a lot of the value is. Use it as a list of places to look up rather than as a feed to follow.
Vipava Valley
The public tourism institute for Nova Gorica and the Vipava Valley, at Kidriceva ulica 11, Nova Gorica. Official
9,536 followers and 1,866 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Wine country on the Italian border, and the region most likely to appeal to a reader who is choosing Slovenia partly for food and wine. Nova Gorica sits against Gorizia in Italy, which is the practical point: you get Slovenian prices with an Italian city across the street.
Luka Esenko
A Slovenian photographer based in Ljubljana who has run photography workshops and tours since 2008 and co founded a location guide site. He sells workshops, which is stated openly in his bio

The single most approachable Slovenian creator on this page for an English speaking newcomer: eighteen years of running trips for international visitors, and a Home highlight that is Slovenia rather than the Dolomites or the Balkans. If you want one person who knows both the country and what a foreigner does not understand about it, it is probably him.
British Embassy Ljubljana
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Official, confirmed in the bio, and selling nothing

The second smallest account on this page and the most practically valuable one on it for a British reader: consular notices, residency rules, voting, and the UK nationals highlight. Follower counts are the wrong measure here. If you hold a British passport and you are moving to Slovenia, this is the account that will tell you when something changes.
Karina, Expat Mom Slovenia
Karina, a foreign resident in Slovenia posting about daily life. Nationality not stated on the profile. Nothing sold that we could see
1,053 followers and 76 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. Small, and included because there is almost nothing else: this is one of only two foreign resident accounts about ordinary life in Slovenia we could verify. Be clear about the fit before you follow. It is a young family account, motherhood and slow living, not a retirement account, and it will tell you more about the texture of a week here than about paperwork.
ThinkSlovenia
An English language Slovenian estate agency selling holiday homes and investment property, with long term and tourist rentals and property management. Commercial, and the bio links to its own site
384 followers and 202 posts, read off the profile on 18 September 2026. The smallest account on this page. It is here because it is the only English language Slovenian property agency we could verify on Instagram, and because a reader scouting the market will want to see what is actually listed rather than what a portal says the market is doing. A commercial feed, listed as one. Their own YouTube channel posted a property listing a fortnight before we checked, which is how we satisfied ourselves the business is trading.
Visit Ljubljana on TikTok
Turizem Ljubljana, the city tourist board, on the platform where it is strongest
Approximately 125,700 followers and 488 videos, from Social Blade on 18 September 2026. Worth noting because it is unusual: the city has more followers on TikTok than on Instagram, where it has 90,900. Short vertical video of the capital, and the one account on this page where a public body has clearly worked out the format. Every TikTok figure here is a third party approximation because the platform cannot be read from outside, and we will not pretend otherwise.
